What an office network and Wi-Fi setup costs

The pieces of a business network, what each one costs in 2026, and why the router from the internet company is where most offices go wrong.

The all-in ranges

Network guides published in late 2025 and 2026 put a 5 to 10 person office at about $4,500 to $7,500 all-in, and a 10 to 50 person office at $5,000 to $15,000, depending on cabling and how many access points the building needs (veruscorp.com, thenetworkinstallers.com, networktactics.com, read October 2026).

The pieces

ItemTypical 2026 rangeNotes
Cabling, per drop$100 to $300Finished walls and long runs cost more. New construction is cheapest.
Networking hardware$1,000 to $4,000Gateway, switches, and access points sized to the building.
Access point install$250 to $550 eachDrop plus mounting and configuration.
Labor$75 to $150 an hourDesign, setup, labeling, and documentation.

What should be in a proper setup

  • Business-grade gateway, switches with power over Ethernet, and wired access points placed for the floor plan.
  • Separate networks for staff, guests, cameras and door readers, and payment terminals.
  • One app that shows everything connected.
  • Labels on every cable and port, and a one page document for the next person.
  • Equipment you own, with no monthly subscription to keep it running.

Why the internet company's router is not enough

It makes one network. Everyone and everything shares it, the signal stops at the front room, and nobody can see what is connected. Adding a second consumer router from the store makes two networks that fight. A business network costs more once and then stops being the reason the office cannot work.
