What a web app or mobile app costs to build

App quotes vary by ten times because they describe different apps. Here is what drives the price, the fees that are the same for everyone, and how to keep a first version on budget.

Why quotes vary so much

One firm prices a simple booking screen, another prices accounts, payments, an admin dashboard, and integrations, and a third prices a large team for months. Compare scopes, not totals.

Web app or store app

A web app runs in a browser on any computer or phone and needs no app store approval. A store app is installed from the App Store or Google Play and makes sense when customers use it often, for booking, ordering, loyalty, or account access. Many small businesses get what they need from a web app first, then add a store app once usage proves it.

The fixed fees from Apple and Google

PlatformFeeNotes
Apple Developer Program$99 a yearRequired to publish on the App Store
Google Play Console$25 one timeDeveloper account registration

Both stores also take a commission on digital goods and subscriptions sold inside an app. Real world services, like a booked appointment, generally use a normal payment processor. Check the current store rules for your case, because they change.

What drives the build cost

  • Screens and flows. Every screen is designed, built, and tested.
  • Accounts. Sign up, sign in, password reset, roles, and account deletion add real scope.
  • Payments. Taking money safely adds design and testing.
  • The back end and admin screens. Most useful apps need a server and a place for staff to manage data, often as much work as the app itself.
  • Integrations. Each connection to booking, accounting, or other software adds scope.

Ongoing costs after launch

  • Hosting for the server and database.
  • Updates when phones and browsers change, usually every year.
  • Bug fixes and small improvements once real people use it.
  • Usage based services such as email, text messages, or maps.

How to keep a first version on budget

Build the smallest version that does the main job well, put it in real hands, and build the next version from what people actually do. Before any app, ask whether an automation between tools you already own would solve the problem for far less.

What it costs in metro Atlanta

What does a web app cost in metro Atlanta?

Quotes vary by ten times because they describe different apps. Our first version of a web app or dashboard is from $6,000, with the scope and price fixed in writing before work starts. Mobile apps are quoted after a short review.

What fees come on top of the build?

For a store app, the Apple Developer Program at $99 a year and the Google Play Console at $25 one time, both in your name. Hosting and usage based services such as email or text messages are listed on the quote.

Is there a cheaper first step than an app?

Often. An automation between tools you already own, or a custom integration from $3,000, can solve the problem without new screens. We check that before quoting an app.
